‘Common sense,’ isn’t quite as common as we are led to believe; ‘language barriers’, ‘cultural references’ are as real as country borders.
I feel, translations offer a path into such secluded worlds – to alternative viewpoints, different histories. Translation is a bridge that connects; it transcends, not difference, but indifference.
I translate, read and write – so to invite people over to what once was my own lonely island of few, that lay in between two cultures.
I currently reside in yet another island – the charming equatorial city state of Singapore.
